The Honda Civic Type-R FL5 and DE5 Integra Type-S RV6 R660 Red Ball Bearing Turbo has undergone almost 2 years of development and 3 revisions. This turbocharger features an Antisurge/T51R Mod compressor cover with a carbon fiber inlet. To function properly due to its larger size, it requires the use of an RV6 inlet pipe and elbow. The main goal of the R660 RED was to create a robust and reliable turbocharger. We moved away from the stock-sized TD04 format, which, although popular for its compact size and quick response, struggles to reliably deliver more than 400HP and often has a shortened lifespan. To achieve our goals, we decided to overbuild and upsize everything.

The R660 is built around a TD05 bearing housing, which is about twice the size of the TD04. This allows the use of a full-sized 8mm ceramic ball bearing, providing quick spool and increased thrust loads. To maintain cool and reliable operation, we oversized the coolant passages and used -10AN coolant lines. The larger TD05 bearing housing enabled us to use a turbine housing with an A/R of 0.81. This significantly reduces back pressure between the turbo and the engine, solving many issues related to unstable boost and overheating.

For the compressor and turbine wheels, we used the latest technology with FEA-optimized blade designs. The compressor wheel is a lightweight, point-milled, forged billet design. Instead of using the common Inconel turbine wheels and shafts, we opted for a MAR-M Super Alloy turbine wheel and shaft. This super alloy can tolerate higher temperatures and loads, making it suitable for harsh conditions.
