The slotted design reduces any risk of gassing of the brake pads during extreme braking by having the vented / slotted design. Slotted rotors are also known to help bite the brake pad as well as clean the surface of the pads. This can result in more wear but the safer venting and cooling of the slotted rotor can be of some benefit.
